The Master Arborist Awards and below list is about promoting the Top Rated Tree Service in Columbus, OH, and taking the guesswork out of hiring.
We want you the customer to easily find the 10 local tree services most likely to give a great service at reasonable prices.
There are a few ways we could have compiled this list.
Instead of taking the traditional route of getting residents to vote (which is usually just friends of the business owner voting), we decided to use all online customer reviews and use those along with other metrics to calculate the 2021 winner.
Years of experience, number of reviews and average score.
Taking a mathematical approach (see formula used below results) we gave each local tree service a score.
Other minimum criteria to qualify include:
20 reviews
5 years in business
2 sources of customers reviews.
(E.g. Google review and Yelp, but most have 3 – 4 sources.)

To qualify to make the list, you needed to have a minimum of 20 reviews total across a minimum of 2 different platforms. This can be Google, Facebook, Yelp, Yellow Pages, Angie’s List, Home advisor, or any other 3rd party review platform. Curated reviews taken on personal websites were not counted.
The company needed to be in business for a minimum of 5 years.
We feel that years in operation is a big factor as it speaks volumes about the competence of the business as a whole. A lot of the businesses on the list have been in business for 10 years or more.
The GoTreeQuotes rating is a mathematical formula that takes into account the number for years in business, the number of reviews, as well as the average score.
We believe the provenance of a company and the number of reviews, is just as important as the average score. Just as long as that average score does not dip too much below the 4.0 mark.
The formula used:
Years in business X number of reviews / 1000 X Average score = GTQ rating
Example:
17 x 247/ 1000 x 4.95 = 208
Taking into account all three performance indicators of a business gives us a pretty accurate look at the overall satisfaction of customers while the tree service has been operating.
We found this to be the fairest and most precise way to do things.
Below are some more details on the companies in order as they appear on the list above.
Yes. Cutting down your trees during winter will be way cheaper than any other time of the year. The first thing is that during winter many trees have shed off their leaves. As a result, the amount of work required is significantly low. However, this is not the only reason.
During winter, the number of outdoor activities reduces significantly. As a result, tree services also reduce. This leaves tree services companies with no work to do. To gain demand, these companies are willing to reduce their prices. You can save as much as 25% of tree removal costs by doing it during winter.
For some trees, you have to while for others you can leave them the way they are. It all depends on the type of roots your tree has and how close it is to the house foundation. If your tree has invasive roots, then it is okay to remove them. However, check whether it is at a safe distance or not first. A safe distance is 10 ft. from the house foundation to the outer edge of a tree trunk. If the distance reduces below this, there are high chances that the roots will destroy your house foundation and you should remove the tree.
You have to follow certain steps to make sure that you appropriately select the right tree service company. The first step is by doing a search on the internet to see some of the companies around your area. Once you find a list of the companies, the next step is to check their reviews. Make sure that you do not go for a company with less than 3-star reviews. Make sure that their high-star reviews are many. Then check their background information. By using ABN lookup you will find it easy to know about company name and type of services. Any company that has changed its name recently is a no-go zone. Make sure the company is in operation. Whatever company you select, make sure you check their insurance details and arborist certificates.
Yes. You may prune your neighbor’s tree only if the branches are overhanging on your property. Only prune the overhanging branches and make sure that you return them to your neighbor. Make sure that you also do not violate your local council TPO. However, you cannot remove your neighbor’s tree without their consent.
Yes. But not all cases of tree removal. A home owner’s insurance policy will only cover tree removal in cases where the tree has fallen as a result of natural causes such as a storm or the tree has been dead for a long time. In other cases, where the tree is totally healthy, then you have to take care of the costs yourself.
